Captain Slug is no stranger to modding, bit-tech or big ideas. In fact, his magnum opus is still under way - Mk.6 EMP is a project that has really expanded the definition of "patience."

This time, he's banging out a bit of a quicker project. Metal Slug was started only at the beginning of this month, but he's been going at it with all guns blazing. Less than a month in, the project has already taken shape to look like his original concept.

Metal Slug was inspired by the video game series of the same name, and as a case it had to meet some pretty strong requirements. Here you can see the image that started the project, as well as the unwitting victim.

The case needed to be pretty durable, as it's intended to get tossed around a little bit heading to LANs. Fortunately, his design includes these PVC armour plates, which fit perfectly in the theme. In order to control the airflow, Captain Slug has included these large ducts, which nicely match the look of the case.

The system will be watercooled, but that involves some pretty careful construction when a case could be thrown around a bit. Fortunately, copper piping and fittings don't bend easily. In order to match the theme, Captain Slug also remade the top for his Danger Den CPU block.

In order to be carried easily, handles have been applied to Metal Slug. And for easy monitoring, Captain Slug has hooked it up with a 7" LCD screen and a specially themed Samurize display.

All in all, it looks like Metal Slug will live up to its design specifications well - durable, cool, and quiet. Keep an eye on the worklog for future updates!
